Coal mine deaths were down slightly in 2012. 19 mine workers were killed on the job, two fewer than in 2011. West Virginia had the most deaths with seven killed on the job. A number of rules will be coming down from the government this year including mandatory devices that will shut down equipment when miners get too close and an initiative to reduce black lung.
