New York City is divesting pension funds from private prison and immigrant detention companies.
Make The Road New York, an immigrant advocacy group, says it's Corporate Backers of Hate campaign highlighted pension investments in private prison companies, identifying those investments as an injustice.
Private prison corporations like CoreCivic and Geo Group will no longer benefit from New York City pensions investments. JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo banks help finance private prison companies.
Make The Road New York says divesting pension funds from private prison and immigrant detention companies sends a strong message that "our communities won't support corporations that are locking up members of our communities".
