Alcoa Plans to Layoff More Than 13,000 Workers Worldwide - 01/07/08

The world’s largest aluminum maker announced plans Tuesday to fire 13,500 employees. Alcoa plans to reduce smelting capacity as worldwide demand for aluminum falls. As a result, the company will reduce its workforce by 13 percent and let go of 1,700 contractors.
