NYC Will Likely Avoid Replay Of Transit Strike - 01/08/09

New York City has likely avoided a repeat of the transit strike from December 2005. Jesse Russell reports:

In December of 2005, subway and bus drivers represented by the Transport Workers Union of America walked off the job for 60 hours when they failed to reach an agreement with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. With the union’s contract ready about to expire on January 15, the two sides seem ready to avoid a repeat of the strike announcing plans to head into arbitration with current negotiations at a deadlock. More than 35,000 workers are represented by the union.
