Workers to picket United Airlines worldwide todayBy Jesse Russell From Chicago to Hong Kong, United Airlines will be facing informational pickets around the globe today. Members of the Association of Flight Attendants will be protesting the termination of their pensions and calling for the replacement of United management in 20 of the world's largest cities. One of the biggest pickets could be in Chicago where the AFL-CIO convention is coming to a close. [de la Cruz 1 Cruz 2]: We presented our pension fight to the convention last Sunday and the unions there were eager to take part in this day of action. Sara de la Cruz is a spokesperson for the AFA. The flight attendants have been threatening CHAOS strikes - where flight teams don't show up for work essentially shutting down random flights - and United has answered those threats saying they would be in violation of the Railway Labor Act. De la Cruz says the flight attendants have done their part by giving up pay, contributing more to healthcare and working longer days and it is United who has broken the contract. [de la Cruz 2]: What United has done now is change our contract without our consent, terminated our pension plan and given us the right to strike. Common sense and the law are on our side in this issue. AFA | United Airlines | Posted 07/27/2005 - 9:59pm | 1791 reads
