Lede: Target complains in an anti-union video that’s it’s become a union target. Doug Cunningham reports.

By Doug Cunningham

[Target Anti-Union]: “Someday, you might come into work and find pickets telling guests to not shop at Target. Or you might read articles about unions threatening to boycott our stores. None of that helps you or any other team member. After all, all of us depend on our guests for our jobs.”

That’s an excerpt from an anti-union video produced by Target stores. Never intended to be seen by the general public, it’s making the rounds on the internet. In it , the giant retailer pushes anti-union propaganda at its workers while trying to maintain a friendly “we’re all on the same team” face. It’s an effort to convince its workers that they don’t need a union representing their interests, raising their wages and improving their benefits. Target’s Jim Rowader, identified in the video as Director of Labor relations & Senior Counsel for Target tells workers Target wants to stay union-free.

[Rowader]: “A union would not improve anything at Target. Not for our team members, not for our guests and not for our company.”
