Fifteen states have now broken the double digit unemployment mark. Michigan still holds on to the unfortunate lead with an unemployment rate of 15.2 percent. The last state to record an unemployment rate over 15 percent was West Virginia in March of 1984. California, Texas, and Ohio led the pack with the largest over-the-month decrease in the level of employment. However, North Carolina, Mississippi, and Arkansas all saw slight increases in over-the-month employment increases. The Midwest and West had the highest jobless rates in the country during June. They each average 10.2 percent. The Northeast had the lowest jobless rate at 8.6 percent.
