The National Mediation Board in Washington, D.C. has voted to change airline and railroad union elections rules. The change would allow unions to be approved by a majority of workers voting in union elections. The current rules require that every workers who doesn’t vote in the election be counted against the union. The AFL-CIO says the changes proposed by the National Mediation Board are fair and sensible. Ed Wytkind, head of the AFL-CIO Transportation Trades Department, says the deck is currently stacked against airline and railroad workers and this change brings democracy to the industry when it comes to union elections.
