As labor takes the fight to make healthcare reform a reality to the U.S. Senate, labor leaders are hailing the House vote approving the Affordable Health Care For America act. AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka says it’s a momentous step forward. The AFL-CIO says it applauds House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and members of the House who voted for the bill. And the labor fedeation says working people will redouble their efforts now to make sure it passes in the Senate. SEIU President Andy Stern says the House is on the right side of history. He said like the creation of Social Security and Medicare, the House vote will be remembered as a pinnacle moment. AFSCME President Gerald McEntee says the House bill is real progress and called on the Senate to act swiftly to pass health care reform before the end of the year. AFSCME is running TV ads in 20 congressional districts thanking members of the House and says it will do all it can to guarantee Senate passage.
