Organized labor will work to eliminate the tax on health care benefits that’s in the Senate versions of the healthcare reform bill. AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka says the Senate bill moves us closer to the historic goal of high-quality, affordable health care for all, but the tax on working families’ health benefits isn’t the way to finance the reforms. SEIU President Andy Stern says the Senate bill gets us one step closer to health care that works for the American people’s bottom line instead of insurance company profits. AFSCME President Gerald McEntee says his union will work to improve the Senate bill – producing healthcare reform that doesn’t tax middle class health plans while including a robust public option and an employer mandate that forces employers to pay their fair share.
