Flight attendants at Delta and Northwest Airlines are asking management of the merged airline to agree to a speedy election that would recognize a straight yes or no vote. This comes in the wake of a proposed new voting procedure recommended by the National Mediation Board. That board recommended that a majority of workers who vote in a union election decide whether or not to form join the union. Current rules for airline employees say a majority of all workers in the unit, not just a majority who cast ballots must vote for the union to get the union recognized. The Association of Flight Attendants –CWA is seeking to organize 21,000 attendants at the merged airline. A strong majority of attendants at the Delta subsidiary Compass Airlines voted this week to join the AFA-CWA.
