Many people are excited about the Olympic Games being held in Athens this week, but city officials are placing the homeless and workers in last place. According to a report by Amnesty International up to 40 construction workers died due to poor safety standards during the construction of Olympic facilities. Amnesty International also reports that Athens officials are attempting to clean up the city by rounding up the homeless, drug addicts, and mentally ill people and locking them in psychiatric hospitals until international tourists leave. Also, the government has suspended authorizing inmate parole at six of the country's prisons. |
