Public Option Thwarted By a Single Senator - Howard Dean Says Kill This Bill & Go Around Him – 12/16/09Submitted by Doug Cunningham on December 15, 2009 - 5:27pm
By Doug Cunningham Despite solid majority support of the American people for a public option health insurance plan, the U.S. Senate Democratic leadership appears unable to give the people what they want. Instead they may bow to one senator who's determined to thwart the will of the people on the health care public option. In poll after poll – including ABC, CBS/New York Times, CNN, McLatchy Newspapers and CBS News – a solid majority of American say yes to a public option. Yet Sen. Joe Lieberman, who according to Open Secrets.org has taken more than a million dollars from the insurance industry and who’s wife has worked as a consultant for pharmaceutical and insurance companies, is blocking the public option. Former Democratic Party Chair Howard Dean says it's time to kill the collapsed health care reform Senate bill and go back to the House to begin a procedure called reconciliation that would allow the passage of strong reform with a public option - and without the need for 60 votes in the Senate. |
