SEIU says health care reform must be improvedSubmitted by Jesse Russell on December 20, 2009 - 7:14pm
Lede: SEIU says the health care reform bill must be improved in conference committee once the Senate votes on it. Doug Cunningham has more. By Doug Cunningham SEIU President Andy Stern says workers must stand as one and say enough. And he says President Obama must now also stand and fight for the change we believe in on healthcare reform. SEIU says it does not accept that on this monumental effort to change healthcare can be over without a fight – a fight to really make it work for working families. SEIU says it’s unacceptable that a handful of senators would obstruct progress on this bill. The union says it’s time for the Senate to vote on it and send it to conference committee with the House where it can be improved. Unless the Senate bill is improved, SEIU says for many people health insurance will still be too expensive to afford, some would face a new tax on their benefits and the best way to hold insurance companies accountable – the public option – isn’t there. SEIU says the challenge now – for President Obama, for working people, for the Senate, and for the House – is to stand up and really fight like hell to deliver real and meaningful reform to the American people. |
