Connecticut’s Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a case today on collective bargaining rights for captains and lieutenants in the Connecticut State Police. The officers voted in 2006 to join CSEA-SEIU Local 2001. Union spokesman Matt O’Connor says despite a unanimous vote by these public safety professionals Gov. M. Jodi Rell refuses to acknowledge the collective bargaining rights of these state police officers.

[Matt O’Connor]: “The current governor has refused to recognize the union rights of these public safety professionals. In fact they have flouted opinions by the state's board of labor relations. They've ignored the opinion of the state attorney general. They ignored a superior court judge ruling."

O’Connor says the union is confident Connecticut’s supreme court will uphold collective bargaining rights in this case. A decision could come as early as May.
