UNITE-HERE workers in San Francisco continue their boycottThousands of hotel workers represented by UNITE-HERE in San Francisco continue to struggle with hotel owners over settlement of a fair contract for the workers. UNITE-HERE Local 2 Communications Director Valerie Lapin says health care, pensions and pay raises are issues that remain unresolved in on and off talks with hotel management. [Valerie Lapin 1]: "We've been at the bargaining table on and off but we're still quite a distance apart on some major issues, particularly in the area of health care." San Francisco¹s mayor supports the workers. [Lapin 2]: "The mayor's boycotting the hotels. He's been honoring the boycott since during the lockout." Lapin says eight thousand hotel workers in all are affected by the current contract negotiations. There was a strike and lockout last fall at San Francisco hotels. Since then, Lapin says a boycott against 14 luxury hotels and their chains has been underway. Lapin says that¹s the best way the public can support the UNITE-HERE hotel workers. [Lapin 3] : "We just ask people to continue not to patronize those fourteen hotels and if want a list of those hotels you can find it at our web site at UNITE-HERE.org" --- |
