Economic Report : Single moms will feel new bankruptcy law economic hit - 09/19/05Submitted by Doug Cunningham on September 18, 2005 - 5:37pm
Economic Report By Doug Cunningham With a new bankruptcy law taking effect next month, The National Organization for Women says women - especially single parents - will be hurt economically by the new law while credit card companies benefit. Women are the fastest growing group of bankruptcy filers. More than one on six mothers will be bankrupt by the end of the decade, according to NOW. The new law wipes out the priority status that back child support has and instead puts single moms on equal footing with credit card collection agencies as they try to get paid in a bankruptcy. |
