Coalition of Immokalee Workers reaches agreement with Taco Bell

A three and a half year struggle between the Coalition of Immokalee Workers and Taco Bell has finally ended with the corporation vowing to work for the betterment of workers rights throughout the industry. The company promises to pay a penny-per-pound of tomatoes surcharge and to help raise farm labor standards by lobbying other major fast food players alongside the coalition. In return, the coalition has said they will end their boycott.

[Perkins1]: It represents immediate change, but it also represents hope for the future.

Julia Perkins is a representative of the coalition. She says while in the immediate future the workers plan to celebrate the victory, the long-term goal is to convince the rest of the industry to respect the human rights of their workers.

[Perkins2]: We feel like it should be a no-brainer now since Taco bell and Yum! Brands decided to do it. It should be a easy sell to some of the other fast food chains.
