Delhpi workers meeting in Indiana : only rank and file can save jobs - 11/11/05By Doug Cunningham Rank and file Delphi workers are meeting again this weekend--this time in Kokomo, Indiana--to talk about a grassroots rank and file response to Delphi's attempt to destroy their wages and benefits. Todd Jordan is with Future of the Union, a rank and file UAW group mobilizing UAW workers to respond to Delphi. Jordan says his group isn't out to divide the UAW but to change it so it takes a more militant stance on behalf of its members. [Todd Jordan 1] : "I don't think that we can trust Solidarity House to stand behind the rank and file. I think that if anything is going to happen with Delphi, if we're gonna fight and if we're gonna win. If we're gonna save our jobs and save this country I think the working class, the rank and file, the people at the bottom, are only going to be able to save it." Jordan says the Delphi fight is important to draw a line for social change in defense of the American Dream of a middle class living standard for working families. [Jordan 2] : "What point to do we have to reach until we change how this society is? What point do we have to reach? And I think this is the stepping stone. This could be what we need for serious social change and economic change in the United States. And I think it could start with Delphi." |
