The United Mine Workers' Phil Smith says it supports West Virginia Gov. Manchin's efforts to increase mine safety. But the union is doing even more than holding safety meetings.

[Phil Smith] : "We have taken that one step further at mines where the UMWA represents the workers. We are doing complete, thorough, meticulous safety inspections."

And despite efforts by Sago mine owners to keep them out the UMWA is still involved in the Sago investigation.
