Teamsters striking at Sikorsky in defense of health care benefits - 02/22/06By Doug Cunningham Teamsters Local 1150 is on strike against Sikorsky Helicopter to defend health care benefits. The prosperous aircraft company is trying to force a more costly, lower quality health care plan on the nearly 3600 Teamster workers. Rocco Calo, Secretary Treasurer of teamsters Local 1150, says it's an 80-20 percent coverage plan that would hike out of pocket expenses for a working family to $3740 a year, a big difference from the zero deductible 100% coverage after three days in the hospital the workers have now. [Rocco Calo] : "It's a big difference. I mean, if it weren't for this issue I wouldn't be out on strike. They're also a self-insured company, so the more we pay the better off they are."
