Union "not optimistic" after Continental Tire Talks - 02/22/06By Doug Cunningham The German owners of Continental Tire are pressing the United Steelworkers for $32 million in concessions under the threat of laying off 500 tire production workers in Charlotte, North Carolina. USW spokesman Wayne Ranick says talks were held Monday and Tuesday but he's not optimistic an agreement will be reached. [Wayne ranick] : " What they're looking at are pretty drastic wage cuts and they're also looking to increase the cost for health care prescription drug services."
