EPI says Bush's "Job and Growth plan" tax cut falls shortA new report says that the Bush administration's "Job and Growth Plan" tax cut, failed to meet it's prediction of 5.5 million jobs. Presented by the Economic Policy Institute the report shows a growth of only 2.4 million. [Bernstein1]: "You can see the magnitude of the deficit there. I mean, there was a shortfall of 1.7 million jobs, from the perspective of job creation there's simply no way you can argue that these job cuts were successful." Jared Bernstein is a senior economist with EPI. On the positive side, he says that because millions of dollars were pumped into the economy, it did grow faster then it would have without the tax cuts. But on the negative, Bernstein says because of their slant towards the wealthy the tax cuts increased after tax income inequality. [Berstein2]: "And that in fact was one of their problems as a jobs stimulus. They were never crafted effectively to create employment. They were crafted largely to redistribute income upwards, but sold, I think disingenuously, as an employment program." EPI | White House | Posted 01/28/2005 - 1:43pm | 1079 reads
