AFGE: EEOC being reorganized into the ground - 06/15/06By Jesse Russell The American Federation of Government Employees is concerned that there may be no future for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The organization overseas discrimination cases in the working world and according to Andrea Brooks, the AFGE’s National Vice President for Women and Fair Practices, the current commissioner is reorganizing the commission. The already understaffed EEOC, currently under a hiring freeze, plans to open two new offices and is seeking to offer buyouts to seasoned employees. [Brooks1]: When you get rid of the employees you get rid of people who know what they are doing. Then you are not available to the public to take their cases of discrimination. Brooks explained what she believes is the thought process behind the reorganization: [Brooks2]: We’re going to take away every regulation that protects the American worker. If you do not have an agency charged with addressing that concern then you can not alleviate the pain and suffering that people have. --- Posted 06/14/2006 - 2:51pm | 730 reads
