Workers Independent News Anchor/Reporter Doug Cunningham speaks with AFL-CIO Organizing Director Stewart Acuff about the impact of last year's split in organized labor. Acuff says the split hurt the labor movement, but the AFL-CIO has mounted a robust organizing effort in the past year and has been able to mitigate the worst of the damage to the movement. He says this year's elections will tell whether or not labor's ability to elect pro-worker members of Congress has been harmed by the split. Acuff says the AFL-CIO would still like to see the disaffiliated unions someday return to the AFL-CIO, but he acknowledges that the AFL-CIO's working relationship with the disaffiliated unions is "difficult".
