As car manufacturers begin looking towards broad international plans, the union representing many autoworkers is following suit. Last week United Auto Workers President Ron Gettlefinger met with the Confederation of Japan Automobile Workers' Union to encourage stronger bonds when it comes with dealing with common issues. The UAW has been seeking to organize plants owned by Japanese carmakers such as Toyota. They have had little success and it is speculated that the cross border discussions may lead to a coordinated international push.
