The SEIU is appealing to building owners in Houston to sign pledges supporting more money for health insurance and pay raises for janitors.
Fifty-three hundred janitors are seeking raises to $8.50 and hour, health insurance and a guaranteed minimum of 30 hours of work per week. SEIU says Houston has the lowest paid janitors of any major U.S. city. Several hundred janitors have taken part in a partial work stoppage against five big cleaning companies in Houston.
