Vermont Bill Would Eliminate Secret Union Ballots in Some Cases - 03.26.2007Submitted by Jesse Russell on March 25, 2007 - 5:07pm
A new bill passed in the Vermont House of Representatives will give state employees the ability to unionize via a card-check method. Currently joining a union is determined by a secret ballot method. Proponents of the card-check system says it will restrict managements ability to bust organizers, while opponents say it could lead to unions using bullying tactics to win supporters. The bill still needs to be passed by the Vermont Senate and signed by Governor James Douglas. A similar bill is making its way through the federal government. |
