UAW, USW Defending Retiree Health Care In Dana Corp. Bankruptcy - 03/29/07Submitted by Doug Cunningham on March 28, 2007 - 4:56pm
By Doug Cunningham The United Auto Workers, United Steelworkers and Dana Corp are back in bankruptcy court this week as the corporation tries to use bankruptcy to rip away health care for retirees. The unions say they will strike if Dana and the bankruptcy court arbitrarily cut wages and benefits without coming to a negotiated agreement. Dana is threatening to try to use replacement workers if the unions strike. Dana makes auto parts, including truck frames. Dana wants to destroy its union contracts to take between $405 and $540 million a year from its workers. The bankruptcy judge is supposed to decide whether or not to let Dana do that by the end of April. |
