Two Major Unions Endorse Different Dem Presidential Candidates - 08/30/07

Two major unions have endorsed candidates in the Democratic presidential primary. James Brunkenhoefer, National Legislative Director for the United Trasnsporation Union, says Senator Hillary Clinton won his union's endorsement because she supports working family interests and the UTU has a history of supporting the Clintons that goes back to the '70's.

[Brunkenhoefer]: "Our goal is to change the party that represents the White House and as of today, looking towards the future, it looks like that Hillary Clinton would have that best chance."

The International Association of Firefighters has endorsed Senator Chris Dodd. Union President Harold Shaitberger says Dodd's record of support for working people and for issues the firefighters are concerned about stands head and shoulders above all the other candidates. Brunkenhoefer says that after the primary season is over labor will unite behind a single candidate.

[Brunkenhoefer 2]: "When we get to a nominee - and that looks like it's gonna be about the first week in February - I'm sure that we will all roll up our sleeves and buy each other a cup of coffee or a beer and we'll go on and try to win in November."
