Ten Thousand Las Vegas Workers Take A Strike Vote - 09/13/07Nearly 10,000 workers took part in a strike vote in Las Vegas Wednesday. Jesse Russell reports. Workers represented by the Culinary Workers Union Local 226 and the Bartenders Union Local 165 took part in the strike authorization vote targeting properties in downtown Las Vegas and on the infamous Vegas Strip. [Weiss1]: We’re looking for fair contracts in Las Vegas, we call it the Las Vegas Dream – just our version of the American Dream. That was Pilar Weiss, spokesperson for the Culinary Workers Union. She said they have reached agreements with a number of hotels and casinos, but the union refuses to leave any workers behind. [Weiss2]: We want them to get wage increases that help them keep up with the cost of living and those folks can achieve the Las Vegas Dream of owning their own home, providing for their kids, sending their kids to college, and really maintaining the standard that has been set here in Las Vegas.
