UAW's Stan Marshall Opposes Union Taking On Retiree Health Care - 09/19/07By Doug Cunningham The UAW may set a hard strike deadline in talks with GM that are already several days past the current contract’s expiration. The union and GM are reportedly bargaining over turning over retiree health care to the union. Stan Marshall is a retired Vice President of the UAW who now oversees retiree issues for UAW Region 1-C. He’s against agreeing to a trust fund called a VEBA to turn over retiree health care to the UAW. [Marshall]: “That’s a no-win situation. If you do that eventually you’re going lose your health care.” GM is also seeking wage concessions even though labor costs are just under ten percent of a new vehicle’s cost.
