Chicago Hospital Workers Struggle For Better Than $9 An Hour - 10/10/07

By Jesse Russell

After contract talks hit a stalemate this weekend, nursing assistants, x-ray techs, food service workers, and more at Chicago’s Roseland Community Hospital walked off the job for one day. It was a show of solidarity over negotiations about pay. Workers at Roseland earn on average $9 per hour while workers in similar positions at other community hospitals earn $12. Negotiations began 19 months ago. No word on when they’ll continue.
