AFL-CIO President John Sweeney. Steve Beshear, the labor-backed candidate for Kentucky governor, beat the incumbent Republican by a landslide and union voters provided that overwhelming margin of victory.

[Sweeney2]: “Candidates who don't have working people's best interests had better watch out, because I've never seen our members this enthusiastic and ready for change. And they want an America that works for working people."

Faye Liebermann, a retired CWA Verizon worker from Kentucky, was part of the big voter mobilization effort that ousted Kentucky’s GOP governor. And she’s setting her sights on ridding Kentucky’s wrking families of a Republican U.S. senator next year.

[Liebermann]: “I volunteer my time to get candidates elected who understand what my family is going through. And I certainly look forward to ditching Mitch McConnell in 2008."

Kentucky AFL-CIO President Bill Londrigan.

[Londrigan]: "Union families elected Steve Beshear because Governor Fletcher didn't stand with working people on fighting for basic economic security."
