Latrobe Specialty Steel Locks Out Workers - 05/12/08

On the picket lines for nine days, workers at Latrobe Specialty Steel in Pennsylvania voted Thursday to return to work. Instead of a call welcoming them back, they received a call every worker dreads; the company had to decided to lock them out. Production has continued at the plant since the strike began with the use of temporary workers and supervisers. Three hundred seventy-five workers are off the job. They originally walked off to protest a two-tier wage system proposed by the company. A federal mediator has been called in to work out the differences between United Steelworkers Local 1537 who represents the workers, and the steel company.
