California Considers Increasing Payments For Disabled Workers - 05/12/08California is considering new rules that could give a boost to disability payments for workers permanently injured on the job. The proposal by the California Division of Workers’ Compensation would give the workers an average increase of 16 percent to current payments. A report by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce discovered that California was far below other states when it comes to doling out disability payments. For example, workers who lose an eye on the job only receive on average in California $17,714 in benefits, while in New York State the same injury would provide $64,000 on average.
