Speed Matters – So How Fast Is Your Internet? - 05/27/08Submitted by Doug Cunningham on May 26, 2008 - 6:21pm
How fast can you surf the web? Jesse Russell finds out. The Communication Workers of America want to know how fast you can surf the web as they push for national and state policies that promote affordable, universal high-speed broadband networks. They are encouraging internet users to visit speedmatters.org to find out if your upload and download speeds are as fast as providers say they are. According to a report issued by the CWA last year, the United States lags when it comes to internet speeds. In comparison to other industrialized nations; the U.S. ranks 16th. Of those nations, the US is the only one without a national policy to promote high-speed broadband. According to the report, of all the states Rhode Island has the best speed while South Dakota and Alaska are at the bottom. The union plans to issue a new report this summer. |
