ACORN Report Lauds Some State AG’s On Mortgage Crisis - 06/11/08Submitted by Doug Cunningham on June 10, 2008 - 4:02pm
By Doug Cunningham ACORN – the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now – is out with a report on how state attorney generals have handled the mortgage foreclosure crisis. ACORN says a handful stand out for their “A+” efforts to protect people from predatory lending. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says while state responses are important, the magnitude of the foreclosure crisis for working families demands a federal solution. [Madigan]: “We really do need a comprehensive plan at the federal level, one that is going to combine funding for loan modifications on a massive scale with meaningful reforms of the mortgage lending industry. Many, many states have taken decisive action and have committed substantial resources to the foreclosure crisis." ACORN says in its report that it’s pleased with progress state attorney generals are making in trying to respond to the mortgage foreclosure crisis and take steps to prevent it from happening again. Madigan says she and her colleagues will continue their work, but are also looking to Washington. [Madigan]: “We're closely watching the efforts of our elected officials in Washington as they work to pass a legislative package that will bolster our state-level efforts to help hard-working families hold onto the dream of home ownership." |
