Hollywood: No Strike for Actors--Writers Target American IdolSubmitted by Jesse Russell on July 20, 2008 - 11:27am
While talks between the union representing Hollywood actors and the major production studios are currently on hold, SAG Leadership told members on Saturday that negotiations will continue and a strike is not in the immediate future. New media residuals continue to be the major sticking point between the two sides. Meanwhile, the Writers Guild of America, who struck earlier this year over contract negotiations, has a new target, the popular reality television show American Idol. The Guild claims that writers on the show and other reality shows are underpaid. WGA argues that the editors and production assistants on many of the shows are producing scripts when they form linear plots for the thousands of hours of footage captured to create these reality shows. The union has chartered buses to take protesters to American Idol auditions throughout California. |
