IAFFFirefighters Outraged At Rudy Giuliani $9.11 Fundraiser - 09/28/07Republican Presidential Candidate Rudy Giuliani is coming under fire from firefighters for the theme of a fundraiser in Palo Alto, California. Kellia Ramares has more: The 9-dollars eleven cents party in Palo Alto is the only one of a series of national house party fundraising events that links donations for the former New York City’s mayor to the World Trade Center Attacks. Deputy Battalion Chief Jim Riches lost his son Jimmy in the North Tower. Riches is outraged by the fundraiser theme: [Riches]: I think it’s disgusting. All he says is 9-11, 9-11, 9-11, when he runs for President. He is running for President on the body of my son. NYC Firefighters: Giuliani Was No Hero On 9/11 - 09/11/07By Doug Cunningham On this anniversary of 9/11, New York firefighters are honoring their fallen heroes. Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani isn’t one of them. FDNY Deputy Chief Jim Riches: [Riches]: “He’s runnin’ on his 9/11 leadership and it was lacking and there was none. And he’s not the hero of 9/11. The 9/11 heroes all died that day tryin’ to help people. His leadership is horrible. He just lies, and when you do find out more about him you won’t vote for him.” IAFF | Posted 09/10/2007 - 5:57pm | 1500 reads
Several Unions Have Endorsed Dem Presidential Primary Candidates - 09/04/07Three Democratic candidates are now campaigning in Iowa with major labor endorsements. Jesse Russell has a look: Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd was the first to receive a labor nod coming from the International Association of Firefighters. New York Senator Hillary Clinton has recently picked up the endorsements from both the International Association of Machinists and the United Transportation Union. In a unique move the Machinists also endorsed a Republican candidate – former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. Huckabee was the only Republican candidate who agreed to speak at the Machinists recent convention. And just in time for Labor Day, former North Carolina Senator John Edwards picked up two major union endorsements – from the United Steelworkers and the United Mineworkers of America. Edwards had already received an endorsement from the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. Two Major Unions Endorse Different Dem Presidential Candidates - 08/30/07By Doug Cunningham Two major unions have endorsed candidates in the Democratic presidential primary. James Brunkenhoefer, National Legislative Director for the United Trasnsporation Union, says Senator Hillary Clinton won his union's endorsement because she supports working family interests and the UTU has a history of supporting the Clintons that goes back to the '70's. [Brunkenhoefer]: "Our goal is to change the party that represents the White House and as of today, looking towards the future, it looks like that Hillary Clinton would have that best chance." The International Association of Firefighters has endorsed Senator Chris Dodd. Union President Harold Shaitberger says Dodd's record of support for working people and for issues the firefighters are concerned about stands head and shoulders above all the other candidates. Brunkenhoefer says that after the primary season is over labor will unite behind a single candidate. |
